COIL TO MET

COIL TO MET

Locus+ are proud to present Alastair MacLennan, one of Britain’s major influential practitioners of live art. He will be making a durational performance for the bathroom showroom space within the old JT Doves site, situated behind Central Station in Newcastle upon Tyne. The performance will run over two days for ten hours per day. Alastair will be a permanent presence throughout the performance, moving around and through the space. An installation and human sculpture, it will be improvisational and of the moment.

Alastair has a deep connection to Newcastle upon Tyne and the North East having made some of his seminal performances here in the past. The performance he is proposing for Locus+ and Wunderbar will be the first in the region since performing DRIVEN in 1988.

Having recently acquired the Alastair MacLennan archive, Locus+ will be exhibiting a selection of the artist’s drawings at the Reg Vardy Gallery in Sunderland to coincide with this fantastic event. This extraordinary aspect of MacLennan’s oeuvre that comes from a combination of works created during past performances and a more private practice will be the first exhibition of its kind.

On Tuesday 10 th November, Alastair MacLennan will be talking about his practice at the Reg Vardy Gallery, School of Arts, Design & Media at the University of Sunderland at 6.30pm. In addition to this Locus+ will be opening their archive, the largest collection of documentation of time-based artwork in Europe and based at the University of Sunderland, and hosting a preview of Alastair’s drawings from 6pm - 8.30pm. Refreshments will be served and there will be a free coach to take people from the centre of Newcastle to the School of Arts, Design and Media at the University of Sunderland. The return journey to Newcastle will also stop at Star and Shadow for the INX event. Please note that places for the coach and talk are limited and booking is essential.
