Join Hide&Seek for social games and playful experiences, where artists experiment with game design to create new ways of being together. Hide&Seek?s Sandpit is a monthly event held in London for players to try out new experiences, and for artists and game designers to develop their ideas.
Hide&Seek are bringing some of the best games developed over the past year to Newcastle upon Tyne for a Sandpit at the Tyneside Cinema during the Wunderbar Festival.
We’ll be playing some of the best pervasive games to come out of eighteen months of the Sandpit, plus a new game from a north east designer. So whether you prefer your games solemn or silly, quiet or frantic, jubilant or paranoid, there’s bound to be something for you!
And it’s completely FREE!
The Sandpit is open to everybody - anyone can come and play, have ideas, and try out stuff. If you’ve got an idea for a game you’d like to try out at Sandpit, email hello@hideandseekfest.co.uk.
Games will include:
HipSync
Dance along to music from an mp3 player, and try to work out who’s listening to the same tunes as you… make sure you’re not the odd one out when the music stops.
10 players. Designed by Duncan Speakman and Simon Johnson.
The Man Who Was Thursday
The Central Council of Anarchists is in confusion, and while its members squabble over their exact rank and privilege, the solitary figure of Thursday slips through the crowd. Start conversations, trade cards and duck around corners to see if you can usurp him.
50 players.
Moveyhouse
Come to the Moveyhouse. A place like no other. It doesn’t matter what picture you see. It’s the taking part that counts.
40 players. Designed by Andy Field
Night of the Vampire
Wander the streets striving to find the things you need to defeat the Master Vampire - but beware! His minions may be among you…
20 players. Designed by Kevan Davis.
Ponzi!
Ponzi! is a satirical game of high finance, where players try to get rich on the stock market. But some of them are fraudsters, secretly trying to dump worthless assets.
6 players. Designed by Ben Henley.
Scoop!
Join a news crew, and scout out stories nearby - but make sure you don’t get caught slacking off by rival teams! Return to base to watch the footage at the end of the game, and see who’s got the scoop.
10 players. Designed as part of the Playmakers project.
Semaphoria
A game of silent, coded communication for two teams. Players use flags to develop their own language, then compete to transmit instructions to their team-mates.
20 players. Designed by Holly Gramazio
Standoff
Employ double-bluffs and finger-guns to get more than your fair share when the heist goes wrong. A social game of deals, bank robbery and betrayal.
8 players. Designed by Kevan Davis.
Trap Street
Fill a map of your city with surprising stories, and try to work out whether other people’s stories are true.
Unlimited players.
Werewolf
The classic game of betrayal, werewolves, villagers, and night-time noises.
10 players. Designed by Dimma Davidoff.
Pick Up and Play games
Pick up one of our tested rulesets and settle in for a game of Foldover, Paper Telephone, Dadaist Pursuit, or the Hat Game - all props provided.
