Pop Sandwich

Since a very tender age I have been relatively obsessed with pop music, popular TV programmes and fizzy pop. Mari Wilson, Rentaghost and Dandelion & Burdock all entranced me in my youth and I haven?t given any of them up. Aged 3 I had a Fisher Price Record Player that played real vinyl. Saturday afternoons were reserved for trips to Windows in Central Arcade and Fenwick’s Toy Hall, where I went with my Mam to buy 7" singles and He-Man figures. I attended my first pop concert at 4 and met Toyah afterwards. I refuse to shake off my unconditional love for the power of pop.

Join me in a pop sandwich of three experiences in three rooms in my flat. My tour invites you to indulge in watching, eating, looking, listening and, literally, drinking ‘pop’ with me.

Blueprint

Designer Dan Civico requires a workforce to join him for a one-off shed building experience in his own back yard in Gateshead. In return you will be presented with a limited edition blueprint of the shed which Dan has designed himself, the knowledge required to select the right tools for the job, the building skills and, with any luck, a community of likeminded individuals who can help you successfully complete your own designer shed.

The shed will be constructed over the course of one day under Dan’s careful supervision. Strict health and safety regulations will be adhered to and breaks taken at statutory times.

The working hours will be 8 a.m. ‘til late. The awesome achievement on completion will combat the feeling of fatigue. No experience necessary.

Dress up smart and join me for dinner. After a civilised tour of the premises, and a light aperitif, I will serve you a slap up meal. Then you will have to decide: you can either eat it or throw it; or smother yourself in whatever course you fancy.

Hurl the hamburgers, toss the tart, pitch the peas, cast the custard, lob the lentils, propel the pancakes, and bowl the blancmange. Join me for a feast of pleasures and indulge in playing with your food.

Walnuts and Grapefruits

One morning I was looking at my little toe. It hadn’t done anything for eight years. It looked similar to the other one but for some reason it kept me transfixed, this little toe on my right foot. I had a feeling that something was going to happen. I focused and stared for over a minute.

Then suddenly it happened: it moved! It lasted for a second, maybe even less. I was breathless, dumbfounded, disbelieving, elated... then suddenly sad: it had stopped. I stared again at the little toe on my right foot. It had moved for the first time in eight years. But would it ever happen again?

Pauline invites you to hear her miraculous story, and to learn why a walnut can be a matter of life and death...

Lost Dogs, Lumps and Lodgers

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon. I was cutting the grass, trying to avoid the dog shit, thinking about Tai Chi. I didn't recognise the hunchback struggling up the steps. She looked up. I saw tears streaming down her face. "What's wrong darling?" I said. "I've been hit by a tree," she cried.

Come and make yourself comfortable in Claire and Peter's home and tune in to a tale or two. Meet Loobey Loo, Pharoah and the rest of the menagerie.

Listen, laugh, wonder and wander with a cuppa or a curry at any odd hour, day or night, and if you remember what happened, you may win a prize...
